Our Co-op’s goal is to offer a range of sustainably harvested, local (within 350 miles), organic and- most importantly- delicious food at affordable prices. We’ve put together an ongoing inventory of beautiful, seasonal produce, fresh and frozen meats, a full dairy larder and bread basket, as well as a carefully curated selection of dry goods, grocery basics, and special goodies. We’re expanding our selection as we grow, and we’re working hard to offer the best food at the best cost in the Fort Greene-Clinton Hill-Bed Stuy-Prospect Heights neighborhoods.

What’s in Store

Here are some of the foods that you can expect to see on our shelves:

Produce

Our focus is on seasonal and local produce, organic whenever possible. This winter we’re loving turnips, potatoes, kale, carrots, chard, squashes, apples, beets, and broccoli. These seasonal selections change weekly depending on what’s the freshest thing on the farm. Isn’t that delicious?

In addition to our rotating seasonal offerings, we also carry a wide range of local and organic produce “basics”, including crisp lettuces, tomatoes, zucchinis, pears, fresh berries, leafy greens, salad mixes, bright citrus fruits, bunches of herbs, and mushrooms- just to name a few.

Dairy

Our dairy department features milk, cream, and buttermilk from the Hudson Valley’s Milk Thistle Farm and Lancaster County’s Maplehofe dairy, we have free range eggs from happy chickens (and sometimes happy ducks!), yogurt from 7 Stars and Fage, Cabot creamery butter, both salted and unsalted, and a slew of other refrigerated basics such as orange juice, cottage cheese, and hummus.

Cheese

Our cheese fridge (it’s a very special place in the Co-op!) often holds fresh goat cheese, boules of mellow mozzarella, simple, sharp cheddar, Cowgirl Creamery’s triple cream Mt. Tam rounds, gratable parmigiano-reggiano, Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company’s Original Blue Cheese wedges, as well as voluptuous cow and goat milk Kunik from the Hudson Valley’s Nettle Meadow Farm, among others.

Meat

We offer an array of both fresh and frozen meats, carefully selected from producers who prioritize a natural diet, a free-range environment, and who raise their animals humanely and without added hormones. Fresh chicken and ground beef are available as well as a range of frozen beef, pork, and lamb. We also stock delicious bacon (is there any other kind?) and Kings County sausages from local favorite Brooklyn Cured.

Bread

We proudly carry fresh bread from New York City’s own Amy’s Bread Bakery. Early morning deliveries ensure that our selections are fresh, crusty and delicious, and our rotating bread basket often includes pre-sliced white or pullman loaves and plump, round loves of miche. For you raw-foodies, look for Ezekiel sprouted whole grain breads in our freezer section.

Frozen Goods

In addition to meats and some breads, our freezer section is also home to frozen favorites like ice creams from Ronnybrook Farm Dairy and Adirondack Creamery (whose ice cream is made from their own old fashioned recipe of cream, milk, sugar and eggs- that’s it), fruit sorbets and freezer basics such as frozen fruit and veggies like edamame.

Grocery

Our grocery and dry-goods selections are growing every day, but our core offerings include coffees, such as locally roasted Oslo Coffee, a wide selection of teas, including Yogi teas, dried and powdered spices from Brooklyn-based Gneiss Spices, pastas- from spaghetti to soba noodles, rice, grains and beans, cereal and granola, soups and stocks, a variety of sweeteners- including honey, agave nectar, as well as raw and refined sugar, various kinds of flour- including all purpose, bread flour, and wheat flour, baking needs like baking powder, soda, and yeast, many condiments and dressings- from soy sauce to goddess dressing to salsa, basic ingredients like breadcrumbs, tomato and anchovy paste, jams, jellies, and nut butters, drinks such as organic juice and coconut water, dried fruit and nuts, and great snacks like crackers, chips, chocolate, and cookies. Popular organic brands including Eden Organic, Amy’s (yes we have Cheddar Bunnies!), Glen Muir and Bob’s Red Mill are widely available.

Cleaning Supplies and Personal Care

Sustainability and affordability doesn’t need to stop at your pantry. We also carry Seventh Generation detergent, cleaning products, and paper goods, Mrs. Meyer’s lovely smelling items for cleaning your hands and your countertops, as well as soap and toothpaste from Tom’s of Maine.

As we grow, we’ll be adding inventory to each of these sections as well as adding new sections, look for bulk and baby products in the near future!
