The event will take place: Saturday, September 21st, from noon to 6 p.m., in the spacious “back yard” of the store. (In case of inclement weather, it will be rescheduled to Saturday, September 28th.)
The event will be free and open to the public as a community-wide celebration, and including activities, tastings, and entertainment for all ages.
The night prior to the Fall Celebration, the Co-op is collaborating with neighbors at Outpost Lounge for a special screening at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 20th of “My Brooklyn,” an acclaimed documentary by Kelly Anderson addressing gentrification in Brooklyn. Director Anderson will attend to participate in a Q&A discussion after the film. Outpost is located at 1014 Fulton Street, between Grand and Classon avenues.
The Greene Hill Food Co-op, located at 18 Putnam Avenue in Clinton Hill, will host a one-day-only “Open Shopping Day for Non-Members” during the celebration, and extend the Saturday shopping hours to 6 p.m. (Typical Saturday store hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Guests can purchase local, organic, and sustainable products at the affordable prices enjoyed by members—from fresh seasonal produce, to locally made goods, to quality meat and dairy.
At the Fall Celebration, neighbors and friends can join the exciting range of fun planned for the day. Members and guests are invited to join artist and Co-op member Rachel Robbins for collaborative mural painting on the store’s back wall - a project supported in part by the Brooklyn Arts Council, Inc. (BAC) and Build it Green! NYC. African dance lessons and performance will be led by Brooklyn’s own Fusha Dance—and will complement the smooth musical stylings of Co-op member and Fort Greene local ddotto.
Cooking demonstrations from the Greene Hill Food Co-op will give helpful tips to members and guest shoppers on exciting ways to use their fresh, delicious ingredients. Food samples will be offered from sustainable, local and organic vendors including Granola Lab, Spoonable, Narda’s Ginger Punch, Stony Brook Oils, Brooklyn Cured, North Folk Potato Chips, and more. Other local proprietors will be on hand to share samples of their favorites dishes and flavors.
Kids will enjoy a special yoga class with stories to introduce each pose, an interactive workshop, face painting, games, as well as a special music class—plus New York’s Office of Recycling Outreach and Education (OROE) will host activities that promote recycling and waste-prevention for all types of materials.
