Food Co-op Will Open to Non-Members for a Special Shopping Day,

New Members Could Win an Olea Restaurant Gift Certificate

To help ring in the autumn harvest season, the member-owned and -operated Greene Hill Food Co-op (greenehillfood.coop) is hosting its third annual Fall Celebration. The event will take place Saturday, September 27th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the spacious “back yard” of the store. The event will be free and open to the public as a community-wide celebration, and include activities, tastings, and entertainment for all ages.

During the celebration, the Co-op will host a one-day-only “Open Shopping Day for Non-Members.” Guests can purchase local, organic, and sustainable products at the affordable in-store prices enjoyed by members—from fresh seasonal produce, to locally made goods, to quality meat and dairy. Any new members who join Greene Hill Food Co-op on the day of the event will be entered to win one of two $50 gift certificates to Olea Restaurant (171 Lafayette Ave., at Adelphi, in Fort Greene).

At the Fall Celebration, members, neighbors and friends can join the range of fun planned for the day. Members and guests are invited to join an outdoor yoga session, a bouncy house and other kids activities, and lessons about managing compost. Co-op members and Brooklyn locals Cosmo D and ddotto will spin throughout the day. Cooking demonstrations and barbeque provided by the Greene Hill Food Co-op will give helpful tips to members and guest shoppers on exciting ways to use their fresh, delicious ingredients. Food samples will be offered from sustainable, local and organic vendors including Equal ExchangeThe PiggeryNarda’s Ginger PunchBrooklyn Cured, and other local proprietors.

The Fall Celebration is the last stop the Atlantic Action Community Walk, sponsored by Transportation Alternatives. The walk will highlight community safety issues along Atlantic Avenue, departing from Brooklyn Christian Center, 1061 Atlantic Ave at 1pm and arriving at the Co-op at 3pm.
